Boiler Upgrade

Why not upgrade your money wasting boiler for an Air Source Heat Pump at no cost to you?

Your boiler will be eligible if you have any of the following:

  • Gas boilers (non-condensing)
  • Back boilers
  • LPG or Oil Boilers
  • Fossil fuel boilers
  • Never had a central heating system in your home

The Free Boiler Grant Scheme under ECO4 is here to benefit households that have a low standard of energy efficiency. Homes that qualify for this scheme will also receive new insulation such as Loft, cavity wall or solid wall insulation if your property has solid walls.

Why should I upgrade to an air source heat pump?

An air source heat pump (ASHP) offers energy efficiency, year-round temperature control, and environmental benefits. With lower maintenance and long-term savings, ASHPs are a cost-effective alternative and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Do I get Home Insulation?

Adequate insulation in walls, floors, and roofs ensures that the heat produced by the ASHP is retained within the home, minimising heat loss. So if your home is poorly insulated you will receive more insulation to raise the energy efficiency of your home. Heat pumps only work best in well insulated homes.

You will also receive:

New radiators that are slightly larger, new pipe work if needed as heat pumps are designed to use existing pipework, smart heating controls. If your roof is pitched and facing East, West or South then you could receive a Solar PV System that will aid in running your new heat pump and reduce your energy bills further.

How Do Heat Pumps Work?

Showing the cycle of how air source heat pumps work within a home

1) EXTRACTING HEAT FROM SURROUNDINGS - Heat is withdrawn from the surrounding ambient air.

2) REFRIGERANT CIRCULATION IN TUBES - As the ambient air flows through the evaporator, refrigerant circulates within the evaporator.

3) COMPRESSION PROCESS - The compressor elevates the temperature of the refrigerant, transforming the liquid refrigerant into a gas.

4) CONDENSATION OF REFRIGERANT - The heated gas is then directed through a condenser, transferring its heat to water.

5) EXPANSION VALVE - After the heat removal process, the hot gas reverts to a liquid state, initiating the cycle once again.

What are the benefits of air source heat pumps?

  • Simpler installation process compared to ground source heat pumps
  • Require minimal maintenance
  • Emit fewer carbon emissions compared to most fossil fuel appliances
  • Save upto 30% annually switching from Oil or LPG heating systems
  • Provides heat, hot water & cool your home during the summer months
  • Minimal noise whilst running

Do you have a poor EPC rating?

A substandard Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating can lead to energy inefficiency, elevated utility expenses, environmental degradation, and uncomfortable indoor temperatures.

Nevertheless, individuals receiving benefits have the option to upgrade their existing heating systems. Properties graded E, F, or G are currently eligible for enhancements to enhance energy efficiency.

  • Homeowners: epc rating E, F or G
  • Tenants: epc rating E, F or G

Check the epc register for your energy efficiency rating

"A Whole house approach"

The ECO4 scheme prioritises a 'whole house approach,' underlining the importance of enhancing the overall energy efficiency of the entire property. This enables homes with poor epc ratings to become more energy efficient.

For eligible households, some may receive all measures and some less, this depends on how efficient your home currently is. We will conduct a free survey to determine what measures you may receive. Potential upgrades you could be eligible for are:

  • Air source heat pump
  • Solar panel installation
  • Smart programmers
  • Ventilation for better air quality
  • Enhanced insulation which can include Loft, cavity wall, room in roof, flat roof, underfloor and solid wall insulation.
